Clinical Experience of Duhamel's Operation for Hirschsprung's Disease



Abstract
Hirschsprung's disease is considered one of the commonest congenital anomalies of the gastrointestinal tract in Korea. Serveral operations have been widely performed throughout the world for the treatment of hirschsprung's disease. Duhamel's
operation
had many advantages over the others; minimal pelvic dissection, preservation of sarcral nerve, few postoperative complication. Exellent defecation function. A clinical analysis was carried out on 77 cases of Hirschsprung's disease who had been
operated
by Duhamel's operation in our hospital from Jan. 1982 to Dec. 1993. The postoperative complications were consisted of a enterocolitis (5 cases), intestinal obstruction(4 cases), anastomotic leakage(2 cases), pneumonia(1 case). There was no cases
of
death. The postoperative defection was satisfactory in almost all cases(91%).
